INTRODUCTION*
NEED FOR PROJECT
Parents feel frustrated and anxious due to unclear dismissal procedures, while teachers and administrators work hard to maintain order and ensure student safety. To address these issues, a comprehensive design solution is needed to create a seamless, transparent, and secure dismissal experience for everyone involved.
FINAL PROTOTYPE
RESEARCH*
USER RESEARCH (SURVEY)
Research and develop comprehensive school dismissal management system that improves efficiency, communication, and safety. The focus is to understand the challenges faced by parents, teachers, and administrators and creating an app that streamlines dismissal procedures, reduces frustration for parents, and prioritizes student safety.
PROCESS
The methodology of this research will be a mixed-method survey to provide a comprehensive understanding of the research and to achieve the goals of this research. We will be conducting surveys remotely by sending participants the survey and giving them a time frame to complete survey
DATA
The survey highlights the need for efficient, safe school dismissal procedures. Parents seek improvements, prioritizing safety, technology use, and good communication for their children's well-being. Issues like traffic congestion and improving dismissal apps are crucial to meet expectations and ensure a secure transition from school to home.
Most users fall within the average range in their dismissal process experiences. While individual variations exist, the majority express moderate satisfaction or dissatisfaction.
Parents prefer using dedicated mobile apps for school dismissal, offering convenience, real-time updates, and communication with staff.
An efficient dismissal process is crucial for parents selecting schools for their children. It ensures prompt, safe dismissal, minimizing confusion and teaching discipline.
Parents prioritize technology in school dismissal for efficiency. This embrace enhances operations, betters the dismissal experience.
Parents value real-time notifications, emergency alerts, customizable pick-up methods, easy contact updates, attendance tracking, and staff communication in dismissal apps.

PROBLEM*
PROBLEM STATEMENT
Parents needs a digital platform that has a comprehensive design solution to create a seamless, transparent, and secure dismissal experience in order to have schools and parents have a better student dismissal experience
IDEATION*
NEED FOR THE PROJECT
Parents feel frustrated and anxious due to unclear dismissal procedures, while teachers and administrators work hard to maintain order and ensure student safety. SOLUTION*
RESEARCH OBJECTIVES
Research and develop a user-friendly school dismissal management system that improves efficiency, communication, and safety. The focus is on understanding challenges faced by parents, teachers, and administrators and creating an app that streamlines dismissal procedures, reduces frustration for parents, and prioritizes student safety.
LOW FIDELITY EXPLORATIONS*
LIST OF TASKS
Log in using email and create password (email should already be in the system)
Log in verification options (phone number and email, have users have options to either do email verifications or text message verifications)
Students profile with their grade and parents can put basic informations
Parents or guardians profile
Pick up privileges or who is the primary guardian that picks up the child
Change dismissal process
Dismissal information
Dismissal changed information
QR code for school dismissal pickup

MID FIDELITY EXPLORATIONS*
TESTING*
USABILITY TEST PLAN
To determine if the app is effectively meeting the needs of the parents when it comes to providing a seamless and intuitive user experience, addressing their concerns and requirements prior to dismissal to ensure a smooth school dismissal processes.
METRICS*
USABILITY TEST METRICS
Assessing the effectiveness of the school dismissal app involves identifying usability issues or challenges encountered by parents and guardians, and gathering actionable feedback to inform iterative improvements for an enhanced user experience.
COMPLETION OF TASK RATE
The completion rate is calculated by assigning a binary value of ‘1’ if the test participant manages to complete a task and ‘0’ if he/she does not.
90% - 100%: Very Good
80% - 89%: Pass
79% - below: Fail
TIME ON TASK
Time on Task refers to the duration it takes for users to complete each task. By measuring the time taken, we can assess the efficiency and effectiveness of the user interface or system in facilitating task completion.
5 Seconds or less: Very Good
6 - 10 Seconds: Good
More than 10 Seconds: Okay
More than 30 Seconds: Needs Improvement
More than 1 minute: Bad
ERROR RATE
Measures the number of errors made by users when completing your usability test and interacting with the product. It’s basically the opposite of the success rate. For it, you need to divide the number of times an error occurred by the total number of opportunities for that error.
90% - 100%: Very Good
80% - 89%: Pass
79% - below: Fail
USABILITY TEST RESULTS
The usability testing metrics reveal a satisfactory completion of tasks, efficient task completion times, and an average success rate with a minimal error rate. These outcomes indicate a user-friendly interface or system, aligning with usability standards and user expectations.
EDGE CASES*
WHAT’S NEXT?
An edge case involves developing the counterpart to the school dismissal app: a staff app, including a desktop version and a mobile. It alerts staff to dismissal changes and facilitates internal management of the dismissal process. A mobile version allows staff to scan guardians' QR codes for each dismissal. More features will be integrated through research.
